Police Announce Street Closures In Newark For Movie Filming

Filming for a movie is happening Friday and Saturday in Newark and a number of streets will be closed to traffic, police said.

A police spokeswoman did not know what production was filming but the city's film office previously announced that West Side Story, a remake of the 1961 classic that's being directed by Steven Spielberg, would be filming for several weeks in Newark starting in August.

The movie is also filming in Paterson.

Following is the schedule of street closures:

Friday:

· 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. - Washington Street from Market Street to Raymond Blvd.

Campbell Street and Bank Street, from University Avenue to Washington Street

Saturday:

· 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. – Commerce Street and Clinton Street from Broad Street to Mulberry Street
